Backing up your devices can stop you from losing years of data if they are lost or damaged. Modern devices can be set up to automatically back up to cloud storage or a computer in just a few steps. Here are the steps for a few popular devices.

iPhone backups can be configured by doing the following:

• Go to the Settings app.

• Select your name and picture at the top – If you are not signed in, you will see a box that allows you to sign in with your Apple ID.

• Select iCloud.

• Select iCloud Backup.

• Make sure that the slider is green and backups are active.

*iOS devices signed into an iCloud account come with 5GB of free storage for backups and data. You can always upgrade to a paid storage plan if you need more.

Most Android device backups can be configured by doing the following:

• Go to the Settings app.

• Select Backup & reset – if you do not see this option, find System and select Backup.

• Make sure that you are signed into a Google account and that the correct email address shows under Backup account.

• Select Backup my data.

• Make sure that the slider is green and backups are active.

*Android devices signed into a Google account come with 15GB of free storage for backups and data. You can always upgrade to a paid storage plan if you need more.
